Description

Works collaboratively as an employee of the Office of Student Wellness which is a department of the Student Health Center with other campus partners to build a culture of health and wellness that supports academic, personal, and professional success through education and experiences. Creates an environment that promotes development of life long healthy behaviors through both peer education and evidence-based practices.

This position focus is 70% mental health promotion and 30% general health promotion.



Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Promotion/Education, or Health Studies. Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Promotion/Education, or Health Studies preferred. Two years of experience in health-related practice or health programming. Mental Health First Aid instructor certification upon hire or to be obtained within 12 months of hire. CHES preferred upon hire or within 12 months of hire. Experience with mental health promotion preferred. Additional education can be considered in lieu of experience.

Plans, implements, and evaluates health education programming delivered to campus community through events, active learning, and passive programming methods. Analyzes current trends in mental health amongst college students and develops mental health promotion programming to support ongoing needs. Provides training, educational workshops, and resources aimed at increasing mental health awareness, early intervention and referral processes, and decreasing stigma associated with seeking mental health services. Creates mental health promotion and awareness campaigns to be posted on social media, website, and across campus. Collaborates with campus and community partners on initiatives, policies and research to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to campus mental health promotion. Serves as a resource for mental health promotion within the Division for Student Affairs and the campus community as appropriate. Schedules and conducts Mental Health First Aid trainings for the SHSU campus community. Coordinates Fresh Check Day annually in collaboration with the Jordan Porco Foundation. Develops programming focused on relevant health topics for college students based on outcomes of needs assessments. Supports departmental events, including, but not limited to, health fairs and annual flu shot clinics. Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Specifications: Demonstrated knowledge of health promotion, behavior change, and population-based theories and models. Excellent interpersonal skills, proficient in public speaking, and able to utilize professional judgement and discretion to navigate sensitive interactions with students. Proficient in applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Canva, and other software applications for content development. Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws. Ability to supervise business functions. Communicates with other university departments, personnel, and other agencies. Proficient in social marketing, including social media development.

Up to 20% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
